The Covid-19 pandemic has no doubt devasted the economy of most countries including Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari has charged The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to come up with a recovery plan to help its member states recover from the gruesome effect that the pandemic has caused.
In a virtual meeting held on Thursday with the President of the Commission, Jean Kassi – Brou, President Buhari who is acting as the ECOWAS Covid-19 Champion agreed that provision of logistics will be made available to enable the sub-regions to receive and distribute judiciously medical equipment donated as Abuja will be the center hub for the distribution.
The President also warned against Laxity on the part of African Leaders to continually sensitize their citizens on precautionary measures as the pandemic is yet to reach its peak in the sub-region.
The President on behalf of ECOWAS member-states thanked the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) and the Africa Centre for Disease Control by the Jack Ma Foundation,” for their swift response as regards the financial contributions they made which helped in the procurement of medical supplies., he also commended development partners such as the European Union, African Development Bank, France and Germany for their resilience in supporting the West African States.
