By Chinenye Festus:-
The Inspector-General of Police Adamu Mohammed while speaking during a meeting with Civil Society Groups on Monday, led by the Executive Director of the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, Mr. Clement Nwankwo maintained that the force will not align with any political party ahead of the September 19 Edo Governorship election.
Mr. Nwankwo urged the IGP to ensure that the Electoral Offences Commission Bill is passed by the National Assembly so that people can be free to express their franchise.
The police Boss assured Mr Nwankwo and members of the public that they will ensure that there is adequate security of life and property throughout the election period.
Recall that the Force Public Relations Officer Mr. Frank Mba in a statement on Sunday warned against violence in the forthcoming elections in Edo and Ondo, urging politicians and members of the Public to conduct themselves properly and play according to the rules.
Mba stated that Police will arrest anyone or group that may want to sabotage the security arrangements ahead of the election.
