EU Express Its Support For #EndSARS Peaceful Protest In Nigeria, Calls For Police Reform

Newsie Events:-
The European Union has shown its support for the various peaceful protests erupting across Nigeria following the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a tweet on Wednesday from their verified Twitter handle @EUinNigeria they said that a democratic nation allowed people to air their views in a peaceful manner.
However, it stressed that when it got violent on both sides, it would become worrisome.

“#EU is concerned by the incidents that took place during protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Nigeria.
“Peaceful protests are part of a thriving democracy,” it tweeted.

It would be recalled that the IGP, Adamu had pledged that it would reform the unit to conform to the norms and values of the society which brought about the formation of the new Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
Most Nigerians have condemned the swift nature of creating a new unit without thorough training of the personnel. They had accused the Police Force of trying to inject the operatives of the defunct SARS into the SWAT.
The Nigerian Police Force has since denied that and released a Memo saying that none of the officers from the defunct SARS will be allowed to join the SWAT team.
The EU on its part maintained that the nation would be better off if the force reformed the unit.

“The announcement that serious police reform will take place is an important step to secure rights of citizens,” it tweeted.
