Mali Coup: Nigerian Govt Condemns The Ouster Of President Keita
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama spoke on behalf of
the Nigerian government and condemned the military coup that took place in Mali and the resignation of President Ibrahim Keita.
Recall that a military coup on Tuesday led to the resignation of President Keita after several months of protests by the people of Mali over his government.
Shortly after the occurrence, Keita announced his resignation and dissolved his cabinet.
He had said, “I want no blood to be spilled to keep me in power,” Aljazeera quoted him as saying.
Reacting to the Mali situation, Onyema took to Twitter on Wednesday to condemn the development.
The minister, however, called for an immediate and unconditional restoration of constitutional order.

He said, “The Nigerian Government unequivocally condemns the coup d’état that took place in #Mali yesterday and demands the immediate and unconditional restoration of constitutional order.
“We welcome the urgent activation of the #ECOWAS Standby force.”
