Governors of Nigeria’s Niger Delta (South-South) region on Thursday in Asaba, Delta State, announced that they would set up their own security outfit.
Governor Okowa of Delta State and Chairman of South-South Governors forum who read the communique on behalf of the forum said the modalities for the outfit will be spelt out in no distant time.
After a brainstorming session of over two hours, the forum endorsed the establishment of regional security outfit for the zone and to resuscitate the ailing brace commission conceived by previous governors of the six states that made up the zone for their collective development.
Other decisions taken at the meeting include the need for full implementation of the 13% derivation fund by the federal government and for President Muhammadu Buhari to reconstitute the board of NDDC.
The forum also considered a regional attack on Lassa Fever and coronavirus with an instruction to various south south health commissioners to tackle the menace collectively.
This comes after the creation of a regional security network known as Amotekun by governors of the six South-West states.
