By Divine Sam:-
The Akwa Ibom State Government are to set up a COVID-19 Emergency Response Task Force in all the 31 Local Government Areas of the State.
Dr Ukpong, the State Commissioner for Health made this known recently during a meeting with the Akwa Ibom State COVID-19 Incident Management Committee (IMC) held at Ibom Specialist Hospital, Uyo.
Ukpong, who is also the Incident Manager of the State COVID-19 IMC, stated that the setting up of emergency response task force was one of the measures to monitor and promptly report suspected cases of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
He explained that the directives for all Council Chairmen to set up an Emergency Response Taskforce had been given before the State recorded its first index case and wondered why some LGAs were yet to comply.
The State Commissioner for health added that “while the State Government is not relenting in its effort in combating the spread of the virus, rapid response to suspected cases of COVID-19 is vital to controlling the outbreak and urged the LGAs who are yet to set up one to do so immediately.”
The Emergency Response Taskforce in the LGAs will work with the State IMC to ensure a collaborative response.
