Expect More Deaths From Covid-19 in The Coming Weeks – FG Warns

By Chinenye Festus:-
The Federal government has given reasons for the recent spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country..
Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation and chairman of the presidential task force on Covid-19, made this known while speaking with pressmen as virus ravages the country.
Mustapha said the large scale testing embarked upon in the past weeks has brought the total number of cases of coronavirus in Nigeria to 19,808 cases after 661 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in 14 states as at Saturday, June 20. He said more deaths may be recorded in the coming weeks.
The figures you see now are a reflection of the testing capacity of the country. We have ramped up testing.
From just about two centres, we now have over 30 and so, the results are the figures you see now, the outcome of which will be an increase in the number of casualties in the next three weeks, when they’ll start manifesting. “There’ll be pandemonium and we might get into a panic mode.
Sadly, we are still in the first wave and the figures will not abate, because the attitudes of a majority of the people do not suggest that we want the figures to abate,” Mustapha explained.
The SSG also enjoined Nigerians to support the federal government’s efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic, he however, warned against the inevitable danger ahead, saying Nigeria may get into panic mode soon.
Presently, Nigeria’s Covid-19 total infection has hit 19,808 with 6,718 recoveries and 506 deaths.
