Due to the ravaging impact of the COVID-19 outbreak in many countries, the Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered all orientation camps of the National Youth Service Corps to be shut down today Wednesday 18 March 2020 to curtail the spread of the COVID-19.
The 2020 Batch ‘A’ stream 1 orientation course was brought to an abrupt end nationwide after the Federal government announced on Wednesday that it was shutting down the camps since foreign students are part of the orientation course.
The NYSC board informed members of the public that the Corp members would be posted to their various places of primary assignment and would be paid their full allowance.
A similar incident had happened in the past during the Ebola outbreak and many schools had to shut down as a precautionary measure to curtail the spread.
The board said they had to rush through the orientation programme so as to enable them meet up with the earlier closure. The NYSC board assured the members of the public that all Corp members are free from the COVID-19.
The NYSC orientation course spans for three weeks but it is barely eight days and the camps have been shut down. The camp which opened on 10 March 2020 was initially scheduled to close on 31 March 2020.
