Abike Dabiri-Erewa Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has called for the law to take its full course on Ramoni Igbalode popularly known as Hushpuppi who was recently arrested by the United State’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for fraud.
In a reaction to the arrest of the popular Instagram Celebrity on her twitter handle @abikedabiri, Erewa expressed sadness over how the activities of Hushpuppi and his likes are making the efforts of Nigerians abroad futile. See her tweets below :
Recall that Ramoni Igbalode popularly known as Hushpuppi was recently arrested in Dubai by the FBI for allegedly duping the American Government to the tune of 35 million USD.
The EFCC has earlier stated that they have no hand in Hushpuppi’s arrest but are hoping that he will be sent back to Nigeria to answer for his crimes.
In a related development, Mr. Obinwanne Okeke, 32, admitted to American prosecutors that he was involved in computer-based fraud between 2015 and 2019. Okeke, the Nigerian businessman owner of Invictus Group was arrested in the United States last year in August 2019, has pleaded guilty to $11 million (N4.2 billion) fraud.
Mr. Okeke could spend 20 years maximum penalty in an American jail
according to Joshua Stueve, a spokesperson for the United States District Court for Eastern District of Virginia. He would be sentenced on October 22, Mr. Stueve said.
