Popular environmentalist and the convener of The Niger Delta Self-Determination Movement (NDSDM), Ms Anniko Briggs, has reiterated call for restructuring, stating that even if the oils in the Niger Delta region runs dry, the region still desired a restructured Nigeria.
She stated this on friday while participating in a zoom conference series tagged COVID-19: Turning a Crisis Into Opportunities.
Deliberating on the topic of the day; The Coronavirus Pandemic, Is it time to re-evaluate the political structure” Ms Briggs expressed disappointment on how the Niger Delta region has been battered and abandoned most especially now that the oil prices has fallen completely.
She however, stated her desire to see that the region is emancipated from the hands of lands and fortune grabbers who have left the region desecrated out of their greed and lust for wealth.
In continuation, she dismissed the idea that the Buhari led administration will do any tangible thing regarding restructuring because, she believed the president is so disconnected from the realities of things than to embark on such project.
Moreover, Ms Briggs regretted how Buhari abandoned the resolutions of the constitutional conference Review which was handed over to him by the Former President Goodluck Jonathan for implementation after Jonathan lost his reelection to buhari in 2015.
Nevertheless, she was optimistic that with the unrelenting efforts from other stakeholders especially in the South East, South South, South West and the Middle Belt, there is hooe that the country will be restructured in the not-too-distant future.
She disregarded the dissenting voices from the northern parts of the country in the issue of restructuring, saying they are simply being mischievous just to maintain the status quo because of the oil proceeds they derive from her region which generates a huge chunk of Nigeria revenues.
Other speakers present at the event, include President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, Elder Statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, and Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, also vigorously canvassed for a restructured Nigeria.
All the speakers agreed notably that Nigeria will be better if and when restructured .
