On Wednesday, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the October 10, 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, closed his case at the state’s election petitions tribunal.
Jegede is challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) declaration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as the winner of the election.
Jegede who is an ex-state attorney-general alleged that the election was marred by widespread irregularities.
He also claimed that the governor was not eligible to contest the election.
At Wednesday’s proceeding, the counsel to PDP and its candidate, Onyechi Ikpeazu, said the petitioners were no longer interested in calling other 399 witnesses which they had earlier listed and thereby closed their case.
Mr. Charles Edosomwan, the INEC counsel pleaded for more time to study the petitions before opening their defence on the matter
The case has been adjourned for further hearing on January 19th.
