In a heartwarming gesture to commemorate the 61st birthday of the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Professor Nkereuwem Sunday Etukudoh, Provost and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Jos, paid a compassionate visit to the Salvation Army Children’s Home in Akai Ubium, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
The visit, which drew emotional moments and smiles from the children, was a symbolic extension of Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to the welfare of the less privileged. Prof. Etukudoh, who also serves as the Chairman, Board of Trustees for Eka Midim Clan in Abak LGA, was accompanied by members of his entourage and respected traditional rulers from the Midim Clan.
While addressing the children, Prof. Etukudoh emphasized that every child has a future filled with purpose and greatness, urging them not to be discouraged by their current circumstances. He spoke with fatherly encouragement, declaring that future leaders, including governors and changemakers, could indeed rise from among them.
“As we celebrate our dear Governor Umo Eno, a man who embodies humility, godliness, and compassion, we must also remember to touch lives and spread love. You are not forgotten. Your dreams are valid,” he said.
In recognition of the governor’s birthday and in the spirit of giving, Prof. Etukudoh donated food items, toiletries, and other essentials to the children’s home, bringing joy and a sense of belonging to the special children.
The Matron of the Home, Lieutenant Esther Samuel, expressed deep gratitude to Prof. Etukudoh for choosing the Salvation Army Children’s Home as a place to mark such a significant occasion. She praised the professor’s humanitarian spirit and called for more leaders to emulate such acts of generosity.
Meanwhile, One of the children had glaucoma which Professor Etukudoh in his magnanimity took up the challenge immediately thereby restoring hope to the affected child.
The children, visibly touched by the gesture, offered prayers of blessing for Prof. Etukudoh and the continued success of Governor Umo Eno’s administration. They prayed that God would replenish the resources of the donor and strengthen the governor’s leadership mandate for the good of Akwa Ibom State.
This celebration of life and leadership was not just about marking a birthday but reaffirming the shared values of empathy, service, and hope that define the Umo Eno-led administration.
