The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has come under fire from a pro-PDP group, PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, over his recent criticism of the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara.
Speaking in Umuahia on Wednesday, the group condemned Wike’s comments during a media chat where he accused Senator Wabara of supporting the Labour Party-led government of Governor Alex Otti in Abia State. Wike expressed surprise that while he was criticized for backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, Wabara faced no backlash for commending Otti’s achievements.
In a swift response, the group’s Chairman, Mr. Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, stated that Wike lacks the moral authority to question Wabara’s actions. He argued that Wabara’s praise for his state governor was justified, especially when Wike, a prominent PDP figure, was openly supporting a president from another party.
“Wike, who claims to stand for the truth, seems uncomfortable when others do the same,” Ikpegbu said. “It is ironic that he condemns Wabara for telling the truth when his own actions played a role in the PDP’s loss in Abia during the 2023 elections.”
The group further urged Wike to concentrate on solving the numerous challenges faced by Abuja residents rather than engaging in public spats. They emphasized that no individual would be allowed to derail the PDP’s progress as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
