In what may mark a turning point for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), prominent party chieftain Chief Bode George has declared that the days of indiscipline and self-interest within the party may soon be over.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the elder statesman revealed that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) is gearing up for a decisive meeting slated for May 27.
According to him, the gathering will be a closed-door session where hard truths will be laid bare — and consequences may follow.
“We’ve lost focus,” George said, lamenting that many in the party have become more concerned with personal gain than public good. “Democracy is about managing the resources of the land for the people’s benefit. That’s not what some of our members are doing.”
George made it clear that the NEC will not hesitate to wield its authority to expel members who refuse to play by the rules. “We have the power to throw them out. If you can’t follow the party’s rules and regulations, then you have no place here.”
This tough talk comes amid growing frustration over the PDP’s internal disarray following the 2023 general elections. Rather than presenting a unified front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP has been plagued by infighting and a failure to hold erring members accountable — even those who openly work against the party.
A case in point is former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who recently reaffirmed his allegiance to the PDP while simultaneously pledging support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election — a move many see as a blatant conflict of interest.
As the NEC prepares to confront the party’s internal contradictions, George’s message is clear: the PDP must return to its founding values — or risk further decline.
