The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims that the recent explosion in Abuja was a suicide bombing.
Initial reports had suggested that the blast, which occurred on Monday along the Mararaba-Nyanya bypass, was caused by a suicide bomber. However, during a project inspection in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike clarified that the explosion was not an act of terrorism.
He explained that the individual involved had unknowingly transported an explosive material from a quarry site, which detonated and caused the blast.
Supporting the Minister’s statement, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed in a press release that the victim sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital for urgent medical care.
