Niger state flood tragedy: Death toll rises to 153 as more bodies Recovered.

The Niger State Government has confirmed that the death toll from the devastating flood in Mokwa Local Government Area has risen to 153, following the recovery of two additional bodies.

This was disclosed on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, in Minna.

According to the statement, the disaster has severely impacted numerous households and individuals across affected communities. The state government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting victims and delivering relief assistance.

“The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), in collaboration with local authorities and dedicated volunteers, is working tirelessly to provide aid and comfort to those affected,” the statement noted.

The government also emphasized the importance of responsible communication during this difficult period, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information, especially on social media.

“This is a time of mourning and shared grief for the entire state. Misinformation only deepens the pain and confusion,” the statement warned.

Residents were called upon to cooperate fully with emergency teams and to promote unity, empathy, and truthful reporting.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may their families find strength in this trying time,” the SSG concluded.
