Tension in Abak federal constituency as Rep. Jimbo faces backlash over controversial custard empowerments.

By Our correspondent

The Abak Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom state has been thrown into controversy following a widely criticized empowerment initiative by Hon. Clement Jimbo, the member representing the constituency in the National Assembly.

Residents have expressed outrage after the lawmaker distributed custard, claiming it was part of a food empowerment program aimed at alleviating hardship in the area. The gesture, however, was met with strong rejection by constituents who described it as an insult and a misuse of public resources.

Community members voiced their frustration over what they termed the “non-performance” of Hon. Jimbo, lamenting the absence of tangible developmental projects since he assumed office. They accused him of focusing more on political campaigning for the 2027 elections rather than delivering on his legislative mandate.

“The lawmaker has done nothing of substance. Now he’s handing out custard as empowerment? That’s unacceptable, this is not just an insult but abuse of our franchises” a resident fumed.

Adding to the controversy, a source reportedly close to the lawmaker revealed to our correspondent that the ₦1 billion allocated to each House of Representatives member for constituency projects is allegedly being diverted by Hon. Jimbo to acquire properties in Abuja and Port Harcourt, while also funding his early campaign activities.

Angered by these developments, many constituents have vowed not to support Jimbo’s re-election bid in 2027, warning him against using constituency project funds for personal or political gains.

“We won’t be fooled. Come 2027, he will face our votes,” a local community leader from Etim Ekpo LGA Mr. Ukeme Uwah declares.
