Residents of Elebu, a community located off Akala Expressway in Ibadan, have expressed deep frustration over the deplorable state of their roads, blaming Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for the ongoing neglect and alleged political interference.
According to the residents, the poor condition of the roads has caused significant damage to their vehicles, forcing them to make frequent trips to mechanic workshops. Many described the roads as impassable, particularly during the rainy season.
A visibly distressed six-month pregnant woman who spoke to our reporter accused the governor of insensitivity to the suffering of Elebu residents. She recalled that a member of the House of Representatives had begun construction work on the road last year, with nearly half a kilometer already completed, before the Oyo State Ministry of Works reportedly ordered the contractors to halt work.
According to her, the stoppage was politically motivated due to party differences between the state government and the lawmaker involved.
“Governor Makinde is being wicked to the development of this community. I am suffering with this pregnancy—tricycles shake terribly through the potholes, and taking a motorcycle is even worse. He stopped someone who was helping us, just because of politics,” she lamented.
The residents are now calling on the state government to set aside political interests and prioritize the welfare of the people by urgently fixing the Elebu road.
