A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has named Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as the new Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT).
Hon. Isah Dansidi was also appointed as the Secretary of the factional BoT, succeeding Senator Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, respectively.
The appointments were announced during an inauguration ceremony held in Abuja on Friday, presided over by the faction’s Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.
In a communiqué jointly signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi, the Board explained that Wabara and Makarfi were relieved of their positions to preserve the neutrality, integrity, and moral authority of the BoT, given their involvement in the ongoing internal crisis within the party.
“The Board noted that the immediate past BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, having publicly taken positions in the ongoing intra-party crisis, can no longer continue to serve in their previous capacities,” the statement read.
It further stated that Ohuabunwa, from the South like Wabara, and Dansidi, from the North like Makarfi, were unanimously elected to ensure regional balance and continuity.
The communiqué expressed gratitude to the outgoing officials for their service and contributions to the PDP and wished them success in their future endeavors.
The new BoT also lauded stakeholders and members for their steadfastness amid the party’s challenges and urged continued unity, respect, and cooperation in the pursuit of reconciliation and peace.
Reaffirming its dedication to democratic principles, the Board emphasized the importance of transparency, inclusiveness, and adherence to the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the PDP Constitution in maintaining the party’s legacy as a custodian of democratic ideals.
