A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated a new Board of Trustees (BoT), deepening the party’s internal division.

During the inauguration ceremony on Friday, the faction’s Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, said the move marks a “turning point” for the PDP, accusing the Adolphus Wabara-led BoT of losing its “moral balance.”

Mohammed said the new board aims to restore the founding principles of the PDP, which he described as “justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law.”

“The PDP was established as more than just a political organization; it was a national movement built on the belief that democracy must unite rather than divide, build rather than break, and serve rather than dominate,” he stated.

He lamented that the party had in recent years been shaken by leadership crises and internal disputes that strayed from its original ideals.

According to him, the Wabara-led BoT failed to maintain its integrity, citing Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State chapter of the party over alleged anti-party activities.

“The credibility of that leadership was questioned, and its continued advisory role became untenable,” Mohammed said. “What was meant to be the moral compass of our party became divided and ineffective.”

He also criticized the then suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, accusing him of prioritizing personal loyalty over the party’s constitution and due process.

Mohammed concluded that the newly inaugurated BoT would work to restore unity and moral authority within the PDP.
