The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the dissolution of its party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states.

The decision was taken during the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where Governor Seyi Makinde moved the motion to nullify the existing leadership in the affected states. The action followed the validation of executives elected through congresses conducted nationwide.

Governor Makinde explained that the congresses held between 2024 and 2025 produced officials at the ward, local government, state, and zonal levels, as well as national ex-officio members. He noted that the exercise was peaceful and conformed to the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution, and internal party guidelines.

He added that both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) had ratified the congress outcomes. Nonetheless, the party opted to dissolve the structures in the five listed states.

“For Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers, the convention hereby disbands all party structures at the ward, local government, and state levels. This decision will be formally communicated to the public,” Makinde declared.

The motion was seconded by Daniel Okechukwu, the PDP National Auditor and member of the NWC.
