Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency in response to Nigeria’s escalating security crisis.
Atiku made the appeal in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday while reacting to the abduction of students in Niger State.
Recall that terrorists attacked St. Mary Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting more than 50 students and staff members.
Expressing his frustration, Atiku questioned why the Tinubu-led administration has failed to take firm and decisive measures despite the rising wave of violent attacks across the country.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, described the latest incident as deeply distressing, writing:
“Not again. This is truly heartbreaking. How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken?
It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
