Atiku to Lagos APC: Focus on Tinubu’s age not my political choice.

By Our Reporter

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging the party to stop questioning his political decisions and instead address concerns surrounding the age and identity of its own leaders.

Atiku’s remarks followed comments by Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo, who mocked his move to officially join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, the former vice president accused the Lagos APC of engaging in hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty.

He stressed that unlike some political figures, his personal history—including his age, parentage, education, and public life—is well documented and transparent. Atiku argued that this puts him far ahead of “their paymaster,” whom he alleged is significantly older than officially claimed and determined to retain power.

“If Atiku, healthy and mentally alert at 79, is ‘too old,’ what then should be said of a leader whose age remains a matter of national speculation?” the statement queried.

He further criticized the APC for enabling an individual who, according to him, has inconsistencies surrounding their identity while attacking him for making legitimate political decisions. Atiku insisted that joining the ADC was a strategic move motivated by shared democratic ideals, not desperation.

The former vice president added that the Lagos APC’s real concern lies in his political strength and national appeal. He described himself as one of the most prepared and widely accepted leaders in Nigeria, arguing that this threatens the ruling party’s narrative.

He also took aim at the presidency, asserting that the APC need not look beyond the Villa for a leader showing signs of “restlessness and desperation.”

Atiku urged the Lagos APC to stop issuing “uninformed statements” and instead address issues affecting Nigerians—such as economic hardship, insecurity, and widespread suffering—claiming these represent the true legacy of the ruling party
