A tragic incident has struck Benue State, where eight members of the Kyégh family lost their lives after the vehicle conveying them skidded off the road and plunged into River Dura in Kwande Local Government Area. The family was reportedly travelling to make arrangements for a burial when the accident occurred, leaving their community in shock and mourning.

The heartbreaking event has drawn a strong emotional response from the Executive Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government Area, Hon. Dennis Terkura Guda. Describing the tragedy as “deeply sorrowful” and one that has cast a dark cloud over the entire LGA, he expressed profound sympathy for the bereaved family.

In a gesture of solidarity and compassion, Hon. Guda fully settled the mortuary bills and donated eight caskets to ensure the victims receive a dignified burial. He also offered prayers for the family, asking God to strengthen them during this period of grief and to grant the departed souls peaceful rest.

He further reassured the relatives that the local government stands firmly with them.
“No family should have to bear such an overwhelming tragedy alone. We are one people, and their pain is our collective pain,” he said.
