President Bola Tinubu has put forward the retired former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
The nomination was contained in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, where Tinubu announced Musa as the proposed replacement for Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, who stepped down from the position on Monday.
Gen. Musa previously served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 until October 2025. A distinguished military officer, he received the prestigious Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.
Born in Sokoto in 1967, Musa completed his primary and secondary schooling in the state before moving on to the College of Advanced Studies in Zaria. He finished the programme in 1986 and subsequently entered the Nigerian Defence Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree upon graduating in 1991.
