There was no PDP convention in Ibadan -Edo chapter, says expulsion notices are fake.

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked reports that the party held a national convention in Ibadan on November 16, 2025, insisting that no such event took place and that any claims of new national leadership are fraudulent.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bob-Manuel Umoru, said the circulating reports alleging the emergence of a new National Chairman and the issuance of expulsion certificates to some party members — including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike — were entirely false.

Umoru stressed that the PDP has not conducted any recognized National Convention as required by the party’s constitution.

He stated:
“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading release claiming a new National Chairman emerged from a so-called convention in Ibadan. For clarity and in the interest of legality, it must be noted that no such convention was held by the PDP.”

The Edo chapter also referenced two existing High Court orders that currently prohibit the party from holding any convention until certain legal issues are resolved. These orders, according to Umoru, remain valid and binding.

“Any actions taken in disregard of these court directives — including purported handover ceremonies or installation of new party leaders — are null and void,” he added.

Responding to the alleged expulsion certificates issued to Wike and other party members, Umoru criticized the move as political theatrics without any constitutional backing.

“You cannot expel members during a convention that never occurred, under a leadership structure that has no legal recognition,” he said, describing the act as “a mockery of due process.”

He reaffirmed that the PDP is guided by law, order, and democratic principles, and warned against attempts to impose unauthorized leadership structures on the party.

Umoru urged party members within Edo State and across the country to disregard the circulating misinformation.

“No PDP National Convention has taken place. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, is not the National Chairman of the party. The alleged expulsions are invalid and unenforceable. The subsisting High Court orders remain in force,” he concluded.

He encouraged members to remain committed to protecting the party’s constitution and upholding its integrity
