A former National Legal Adviser of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, has called on the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, to remain resolute in promoting professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards in the practice of journalism.
Enoidem made the call on Saturday in Uyo while receiving the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Nsibiet John, who led members of the state executive to a breakfast meeting with him.
Speaking on the crucial role of the media as the Fourth Estate of the Realm, the senior advocate emphasized that strict adherence to professional ethics would strengthen the media’s ability to hold government accountable, spotlight critical social issues, and serve as the conscience of society.
He congratulated Comrade Nsibiet John on his election as Chairman of the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State and also felicitated with the newly elected executive members, expressing confidence in their capacity to lead the union effectively.
Enoidem further commended the NUJ for initiating meaningful and people-oriented programmes, including the forthcoming 2026 NUJ Thanksgiving Service, which he pledged to attend. He wished the union’s leadership a successful and impactful tenure.
Earlier, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, accompanied by the State Secretary, Comrade Nsikak Esenowo, and the Zonal Trustee, Comrade Gabriel Ekaidem, thanked Enoidem for his long-standing support and consistent identification with journalists in Akwa Ibom State.
Comrade Nsibiet John reaffirmed the union’s commitment to objective, responsible and balanced reportage, while pledging continued collaboration with government and stakeholders in promoting good governance and sustainable development across the state.
He also formally invited Enoidem to the NUJ 2026 Thanksgiving Service scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Qua Iboe Church, Abak Itenge, Abak LGA Akwa Ibom state.
