The Member representing Ukanafun Federal Constituency in the National Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Public Procurement, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, on Tuesday commissioned and formally handed over a reconstructed and fully furnished palace to the Paramount Ruler of Ukanafun Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Akuku Engr. Amos Akpan.
At a brief but colourful handing-over ceremony held at the palace, Rt. Hon. Idem also announced the donation of a brand new soundproof power plant to the Royal Father. He described the monarch as a pillar of peace and stability in Ukanafun Local Government Area, commending him for his fatherly leadership and sustained efforts at promoting harmony within the area.
The federal lawmaker assured the Royal Father and members of the Traditional Council of his unwavering commitment to attracting more dividends of democracy to Ukanafun Federal Constituency for the overall benefit of the people. He further pledged that the traditional institution would always receive prompt and expeditious attention from the National Assembly on any matter requiring legislative intervention at the national level.
Responding, the Paramount Ruler of Ukanafun Local Government Area, HRM Akuku Engr. Amos Akpan, expressed profound gratitude to Rt. Hon. Idem for personally taking up the reconstruction of the palace and delivering a befitting, modern, and fully furnished edifice. He described the lawmaker as “Ubokudom Ukanafun,” meaning the right hand of Ukanafun, in recognition of his consistent support and development-oriented leadership.
The monarch also appreciated Rt. Hon. Idem for the numerous projects and programmes he has attracted and executed across the Federal Constituency, praying that God continues to bless, uplift, and strengthen him to greater heights of service.
Goodwill messages were delivered by key stakeholders, including the Member representing Ukanafun State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Emem Udom, and the Executive Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government Council, Hon. Uyo Ukpanah, among others. They commended Rt. Hon. Idem for reconstructing the Royal Father’s palace and for several life-impacting interventions, notably the recent donation of 25 transformers to all 24 wards in the Federal Constituency.
