The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a ban on commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as (Yanzu Adaidaita Sahu), from wearing three quarter trousers during the month of Ramadan.

The directive was disclosed by the Deputy Commander General of the board, Mujahid Aminuddeen, in a statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. He said any operator found violating the order would be arrested and prosecuted.

“Based on the directives of our Commander General, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the board would conduct a special Ramadan operation.

“The special operation will be carried out throughout the Ramadan period in all places where people engage in immoral acts,” he said.

Aminuddeen said tricycle operators have also been barred from playing music that disturbs passengers and other members of the public in the city.
He added that the use of knockouts in any part of the city has been prohibited, along with indecent dressing that exposes the body, especially by young women.

The placement of phonographic posters and stickers on tricycles is also banned.

The board further prohibited the mixing of opposite genders in tricycles, including carrying male and female passengers by their sides.

Aminuddeen warned that any tricycle operator found violating the directive would face the full wrath of the law.

“The board has also concluded arrangements to deploy its operatives to various mosques where Tarawihi and Tahajjud (Special Night Prayers) are being conducted to work with other security agents to enhance security,” he said.

According to him, the board would not fold its arms and allow bad behaviour and immoral activities of tricycle operators to continue, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

He recalled that the Hisbah Board recently launched an exercise tagged “Operation Kau da Badala”, meaning Operation fight against immorality, aimed at sanitising Kano State of social vices such as prostitution, drug abuse and other immoral activities among youths.

He listed some of the alleged offences by commercial tricycle operators to include “immoral haircuts, riding around wearing only shorts, using objectionable posters on their vehicles, mixing unrelated men and women, selling illegal drugs, and conveying women to places where they engage in immoral acts, among others.
