NUJ chairman Nsibiet John pledges continued support for women journalists in Akwa Ibom.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting women journalists in the state while commending them for their consistent cooperation with the union.

Comrade John gave the assurance when he attended the March Congress of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, held on Tuesday at the NUJ Press Centre.

During the meeting, the NUJ Chairman expressed gratitude to the women journalists for their unwavering solidarity and support toward the leadership of the council. He noted that their active participation has continued to strengthen the activities and overall progress of the union in the state.

He also congratulated members of NAWOJ on the celebration of International Women’s Day, describing them as dedicated professionals whose contributions to journalism and society remain remarkable and worthy of commendation.

Comrade John further assured members that the current NUJ leadership remains focused on delivering its campaign promises. According to him, the council is committed to improving members’ welfare, organizing regular capacity-building programmes, providing free internet services for journalists, strengthening social bonds among members, and introducing other initiatives aimed at advancing professional journalism practice in Akwa Ibom State.

Responding, the Chairman of NAWOJ, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Comrade Nsikak Edmund Okon, appreciated the NUJ Chairman for honouring the congress with his presence and for his continued support to the association.

She reiterated that women journalists in the state remain committed to upholding professionalism and contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of the union.

Comrade Okon also thanked the NUJ leadership for identifying with NAWOJ and assured that members of the association would continue to support programmes and initiatives designed to strengthen journalism practice and the activities of the council.
