Appeal court victory: NUJ obtains certified true copy of judgment in long-standing legal dispute.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has officially obtained the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Court of Appeal judgment which affirmed the union’s victory in Suit No. HU/UND.208/2015 involving Otto Trinity Studios.

The Chairman of the union, Comrade Nsibiet John, received the CTC earlier this week, formally confirming the judgment of the Court of Appeal in favour of the union in a legal dispute that lasted for more than ten years.

The case, which dates back over a decade, was inherited by the current NUJ leadership from previous administrations, including those of Elder Patrick Albert and Comrade Amos Etuk. However, the matter reached its decisive conclusion during the administration of Comrade Nsibiet John, barely four months after he assumed office.

Initially, the High Court of Akwa Ibom State had ruled in favour of Otto Trinity Studios. Dissatisfied with the decision, the NUJ approached the Court of Appeal to challenge the judgment.

Delivering the appellate court’s ruling, the lead judge, Justice Lateef Babajide Lawal-Akapo, with Justices Mohammed Danjuma and Eleojo Enenche concurring, held that the appeal had merit. The court consequently set aside the earlier decision of the lower court and struck out the suit for lack of jurisdiction.

The legal team representing the NUJ was Depths and Heights Attorneys, led by Barrister Augustine Ekpo.

Reacting to the development, the NUJ Chairman expressed gratitude to God for the favourable outcome and appreciated members of the union, stakeholders, and past leaders for their confidence and support throughout the legal process.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, responsible leadership, and the protection of the union’s assets and interests for the benefit of all members.

Comrade Nsibiet John noted that the judgment represents a major milestone for the union and opens a new chapter for growth, unity, and institutional stability for the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State.
