A tragic road accident on Wednesday claimed the lives of six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and a soldier, following a fatal collision on the Yola–Song Highway in Adamawa State.

The crash occurred near Barikin-Sajo when a military gun truck reportedly collided head-on with a commercial Hummer bus travelling from Kano to Mubi. Eyewitnesses said the incident happened around a bend after the military vehicle attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed, veering into the path of the oncoming bus.

The impact sparked a fire that quickly engulfed the bus, trapping occupants inside. Several victims were said to have been burnt beyond recognition.

While some eyewitness accounts suggested as many as 10 fatalities, authorities confirmed six deaths.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (Federal Road Safety Corps) confirmed that emergency responders and security operatives were deployed to the scene to evacuate victims and clear the wreckage.

Adamawa State Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the dead include four NYSC members, one soldier, and one other passenger, adding that preliminary investigations suggest all five passengers in the bus were affected by the fire outbreak triggered by the collision.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.
