The Lagos State Police Command has announced the sudden death of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khan Salihu, a respected senior officer who until his demise served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration in Lagos State.
DCP Salihu reportedly passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, shortly after leaving his office at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
According to reports, the senior police officer had returned from the mosque when he complained of feeling fatigued and requested permission to leave work early to rest at home. However, his condition reportedly worsened upon arrival at his residence, and he died while being rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin’s successor, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described the late officer as a dedicated and highly professional member of the Nigeria Police Force whose contributions greatly impacted the command.
In an official statement, Adebisi said the command was deeply saddened by the loss of DCP Salihu, noting that he served the Nigeria Police Force with exceptional professionalism, loyalty, discipline, and integrity throughout his distinguished career.
“Throughout his distinguished career, DCP Khan Salihu exemplified diligence, exemplary leadership, and an unwavering commitment to duty. His wealth of experience, administrative acumen, and invaluable contributions greatly enhanced the effective management and operational efficiency of the Lagos State Police Command,” the statement read.
The command further described the news of his death as a profound shock and a painful loss to officers and men of the force.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, on behalf of officers and personnel of the command, extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones.
“DCP Khan Salihu will be fondly remembered for his dedication, humility, professionalism, and selfless service to the nation and the Nigeria Police Force. His legacy of service and commitment will continue to inspire officers and men of the Command,” the statement added.
Before his latest appointment in Lagos, DCP Khan Salihu served as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Victor Attah, between 2003 and 2007, earning recognition for his professionalism and commitment to public service.
His death has elicited condolences from colleagues, friends, and associates across the country, who have described him as an experienced officer whose service to the nation will not be forgotten.
