The Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi, has expressed disappointment over the poor attendance of civil servants after finding several offices deserted during an unannounced visit to the State Secretariat in Dutse.
The governor, who arrived at the secretariat early in the morning, was surprised to discover that many government offices were either locked or completely empty despite official working hours having commenced.
Governor Namadi inspected a number of ministries, departments and agencies and observed that many civil servants were absent from their duty posts without any explanation. The development, according to him, undermines productivity and the efficient delivery of government services to the people of Jigawa State.
Speaking during the visit, the governor stressed that public service is a sacred responsibility and warned that absenteeism and indiscipline would no longer be tolerated under his administration. He reiterated his government’s commitment to instilling discipline, accountability and professionalism across the state’s civil service.
He noted that civil servants are paid with taxpayers’ money and must justify their salaries through dedicated service and punctuality at work. The governor further directed relevant authorities to investigate the situation and ensure that erring officers are identified and sanctioned in accordance with the civil service rules.
Governor Namadi reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen the public service and ensure that government institutions function efficiently to deliver quality services to the people of Jigawa State.
The surprise inspection has sparked conversations on the need for greater commitment and discipline among public servants as the state government intensifies efforts to reform the civil service and improve governance.
