The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s academic qualifications, insisting that the President graduated with a first-class degree in Accounting from Chicago State University in the United States.

Alausa made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television while responding to questions surrounding Tinubu’s educational background.

The minister said his personal experience living in Chicago for nearly three decades, coupled with his visits to the university and interactions with some of its former students, informed his position on the President’s academic record.

He maintained that he had met several people who attended the institution alongside Tinubu, insisting that the President’s academic achievements should not be questioned.

“I’m telling you hardcore facts. I lived in Chicago for almost 30 years. I’ve been to that university so many times,” Alausa said.

The minister also spoke highly of Tinubu’s intellectual ability, describing him as exceptionally intelligent and urging Nigerians to recognise his capacity.

“He’s a genius. Let’s not talk about the capability of this President. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is literally a genius,” he said.

Tinubu’s academic qualifications, particularly his Chicago State University certificate, have remained a subject of public debate since the 2023 presidential election, with questions raised over details of his educational records.
