Actor Ray Adeka faults Tinubu’s economic reforms, recalls president’s opposition to fuel subsidy removal in 2012.

Nollywood actor Ray Adeka has criticised supporters of President Bola Tinubu for defending his administration’s economic policies whenever Nigerians raise concerns about the rising cost of living and prevailing economic hardship.

Adeka, in a video circulating online, questioned the celebration of the removal of fuel subsidy, the floating of the naira and the expansion of the tax bracket as major achievements of the Tinubu administration.

Recalling the President’s position during the 2012 Occupy Nigeria protests, when former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration attempted to remove fuel subsidy, the actor argued that Tinubu had previously opposed the same policy he now expects Nigerians to accept.

“The same fuel subsidy that Jonathan tried to remove, that Tinubu was blatantly against its removal, that’s what he wants us to celebrate,” Adeka said.

The actor also accused supporters of the current administration of responding to complaints about economic hardship by listing government reforms rather than addressing the difficulties faced by ordinary Nigerians.

He questioned the expansion of the tax bracket, arguing that the policy could increase the tax burden on low-income earners.

Adeka also faulted the floating of the naira, sarcastically questioning why the three policies were being presented as remarkable economic achievements.

Expressing his frustration with the responses of government supporters, he said, “So anytime you attack this government and you talk about the Tinubu administration and how people are suffering, the people who support his government are quick to talk about the reforms. It’s always grammar.”

His comments come amid continuing public debate over the impact of the Federal Government’s economic reforms, particularly fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate liberalisation and tax policies, on household incomes and the cost of living.
