The Executive Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Ime Effiong Charles (Lady BEST), on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, disbursed a total of N27.6 million in business support grants to 314 beneficiaries from 98 villages in Midim, Otoro, and Ediene Clans.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman described the empowerment initiative as one of the key components of her BEST Agenda designed to strengthen small businesses, stimulate rural economies, and improve financial stability for households across the local government.
The Managing Director/CEO of Akwa Ibom Investment and Property Company Limited (APICO), Barr. Patrick Udomfang, praised the Council Boss for her commitment to grassroots development, calling the initiative a visionary step toward human capital growth.
Also lending his voice, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers and Paramount Ruler of Abak, His Majesty Akuku Sylvester Udofia, JP, applauded the programme, noting that the Chairman has consistently shown leadership anchored on the wellbeing of the people.
Former Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Uwem Udoma represented by Hon. Ekopimo Ezekiel described the empowerment as a clear manifestation of the benefits of electing a leader with a people-first philosophy.
Similarly, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Moses Ekpo, commended the gesture, describing it as evidence of responsible leadership and a deep commitment to community upliftment.
Representatives of the beneficiaries including Mr. Christopher John Obo (Midim), Mrs. Grace Udofia (Otoro), and Princess Itoro Umanah (Ediene) expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman, promising to utilize the funds for productive ventures.
A key moment during the event was the physical presentation of N200,000 to each of the 314 beneficiaries.
The occasion was graced by Mr. Moses Ekpo, local government officials, former chairmen, traditional rulers, women groups, youth organizations, and other notable stakeholders.
