Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to renewable energy, emphasizing that mini-grids supported through concessionary financing will play a crucial role in improving electricity access nationwide.

Speaking on Tuesday through Metu Francis, a principal electrical engineer at the Ministry of Power, Adelabu delivered the remarks at the 2025 Renewable Energy Conference in Abuja, themed “Stronger Together: Advancing Energy Access Through Policy, Finance & Inclusion.” He noted that the focus of the conference aligns with the ministry’s mission to deliver clean, dependable, and affordable energy to Nigerians.

Adelabu stressed that Nigeria’s energy transition cannot be achieved without strong private-sector involvement—ranging from concessions and local manufacturing to financial institutions and community-based initiatives.

He added that deeper collaboration among stakeholders is essential for scaling up mini-grid deployment, strengthening local technical capacity, unlocking low-interest financing, and supporting women, small businesses, and underserved communities in adopting renewable energy solutions.

“As Nigeria intensifies efforts to deploy renewable technologies from solar home systems and productive-use devices to mini-grids and climate-smart innovations—partnership remains the cornerstone for success,” he said.

The minister also assured actors in the sector that the government will continue to provide an enabling environment through supportive policies, better financing channels, and consistent engagement with industry operators working to expand modern electricity
