Tragedy struck again in Benue State on Monday evening as suspected herdsmen launched coordinated attacks in Agatu and Apa Local Government Areas, resulting in multiple fatalities.
In Agatu LGA, one of the victims was identified as Sunday Dutse, a native of Odejo and younger brother to a former chairman of the local government. Dutse was reportedly killed along the Odugbeho-Ogbaulu road. He had previously been displaced by an earlier attack and was residing in Ogwule-Kaduna, also within Agatu LGA.
On the same day, a separate assault in Edikwu G’icho, a community in Apa LGA, led to the deaths of three young men. According to reports, two of the victims were from Edikwu G’icho, while the third hailed from Ugbokpo.
These renewed attacks come despite recent assurances by senior military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, who had visited the region and pledged to strengthen security across the state’s vulnerable communities.
