Ray of hope in yelewata tragedy: father reunites with baby son after massacre.

By Divine Sam

In a deeply emotional moment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), a grieving father, Mr. Targule Aya, was reunited with his only surviving child after losing his wife and three other children in the recent Yelewata massacre.

The infant, 10-month-old Targule Aya Jr., miraculously survived the brutal attack reportedly carried out by suspected herdsmen in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area. A fleeing resident discovered the baby with a stab wound on his back and rushed him to BSUTH for urgent medical care.

Upon his arrival, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, ordered his immediate admission to the Paediatric Medical Ward. A compassionate staff member, Mrs. Asongo Roseline, stepped in as a temporary caregiver, offering constant attention and motherly care to the baby as doctors fought to stabilize him.

Hope resurfaced when Mrs. Blessing Audu, herself a survivor of the attack and a patient at the hospital, recognized the child. She quickly informed Mr. Aya, who had been unaware that his son had survived.

The reunion between father and son was filled with tears and emotion as Mr. Aya embraced his baby boy—the only light left in the darkness that had engulfed his family. The CMD commended the hospital team, especially Mrs. Roseline, for their dedication and selflessness, attributing the baby’s survival to divine intervention and professional commitment.

Speaking to reporters, a visibly moved Mr. Aya said, “God used this hospital to save my only surviving child. I will forever be grateful for the love, care, and kindness shown to us during this difficult time.”

BSUTH, through its Public Relations and Protocol Officer, Tsenzughul Moses, has assured continued medical support for the child’s full recovery.
