National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has acknowledged that Nigeria is experiencing difficult and challenging times but expressed confidence that the nation will ultimately triumph over terrorism.

Speaking in Abuja at the Dialogue on the Role-of-Society Approach to the Prevention of Violence and Conflict in Northern Nigeria, organised by the National Peace Committee, The Kukah Centre, and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Ribadu emphasised Nigeria’s resilience despite regional instability.

He noted that Nigeria stands as the only fully functioning democracy in the Sahel region and stressed the need to safeguard that achievement.

“We are going through painful times, but this phase will pass,” Ribadu said, adding that many countries across the Sahel, East Africa, and South Asia face comparable or even worse security challenges.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring order and defeating terrorism, saying:
“We will not give up, and we will not surrender.”

Ribadu also highlighted the vital contributions of communities, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and state and local governments in preventing conflict. According to him, empowering local communities to resolve disputes reduces the need for military intervention.

“Nigeria desires peace. Our people deserve peace. With sincerity and shared responsibility, we can build the stable, prosperous, and united nation we all aspire to,” he said.
