Controversial social media critic, Martins Innocent Otse—better known as VeryDarkMan—has been granted administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He will be released once he meets the bail requirements.
The EFCC disclosed this update on Tuesday via its official Facebook page, clarifying that Otse was arrested following multiple petitions alleging financial crimes.
According to the Commission, he was invited for questioning several times but failed to respond despite repeated efforts to reach him through his known addresses and communication channels.
The agency emphasized that the petitions against Otse involve serious financial misconduct that cannot be ignored.
While acknowledging the social media personality’s critical stance toward the Commission, the EFCC made it clear that his arrest had nothing to do with his verbal attacks.
“Otse, like any other suspect, was lawfully detained with a proper remand order,” the Commission stated, noting that he will be released after meeting his bail conditions.
The EFCC also expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their keen interest in its operations but urged the public not to misinterpret its intentions. It reiterated its commitment to carrying out its duties impartially, adding that formal charges will be filed once the investigation is complete.
