Abak, Akwa Ibom State — The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Eka Midim Community Worldwide, Obong (Professor) Sunday Nkereuwem Etukudoh, FMLSCN, FWAPCMLS, FCAI, has hailed the recent political realignment of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a bold and visionary step toward transformative development for the state and nation.

Speaking at a press briefing, Prof. Etukudoh, who also serves as the Provost and CEO of the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology in Jos, lauded the governor’s defection alongside state cabinet members, House of Assembly members, local government chairmen, and other stakeholders. He emphasized that the mass movement signals not just a political shift, but a development-driven agenda rooted in collaboration with the federal government.

“We, the people of Eka Midim Community, Worldwide, heartily commend His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for his courageous leadership and unwavering commitment to the progress of our state,” Prof. Etukudoh declared. “His decision to join the APC is a bold statement of faith in the party’s capacity to deliver good governance and transformative leadership.”

He further praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, for fostering an enabling environment that attracted Governor Eno and his team to the APC. He also extended appreciation to party leaders at all levels for their coordination and support in facilitating the transition.

While acknowledging the potential challenges such as internal power dynamics, public perception, and opposition scrutiny, Prof. Etukudoh emphasized that the APC must navigate the new political terrain with unity, transparency, and inclusive decision-making.

“The stage is set for a fresh chapter in Akwa Ibom’s political journey. Effective communication, accountability, and policy implementation will be key to sustaining public trust and maximizing the benefits of this realignment,” he said.

Looking beyond politics, Prof. Etukudoh used the occasion to make a passionate appeal for critical federal interventions in healthcare and infrastructure within the Midim Clan of Abak Local Government Area. He called on President Tinubu and Senate President Akpabio to champion the swift passage and presidential assent of a Bill seeking to establish the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology in Eka Midim—a proposal already passed by the House of Representatives and previously approved by both chambers in the 9th Assembly.

“This institution will bridge the healthcare manpower gap, equip young people with vital skills, and drive regional development,” he stated.

He also requested the construction of a comprehensive health centre in Midim and the rehabilitation of the Obo Annang-Midim-Iwukem Road, citing the road’s deplorable condition and its importance to trade, healthcare access, and mobility.

“These projects align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the APC and will significantly impact the lives of our people,” Prof. Etukudoh concluded.

The address was a rallying call for continued collaboration between the state and federal government as Akwa Ibom embarks on a new path, with hopes high for inclusive development, improved infrastructure, and better healthcare outcomes.
