As part of its global humanitarian commitment to alleviating hunger and caring for the vulnerable, members of the Lions Clubs International, Region 12, took their “Feeding the Hungry Project” to the streets of Sabo Mokola area of Ibadan on Saturday, December 21, 2025, bringing Christmas cheer to roadside beggars and the downtrodden.

The outreach, which formed part of activities marking the 2025 Yuletide season, saw Lions Club members move through major streets of Sabo Mokola, distributing well-packaged jollof rice with chicken, bottled water, and assorted juices to beggars and homeless individuals who otherwise would have been excluded from the festive celebrations.

The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and excitement as beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the timely intervention, which many described as a rare moment of dignity and care.

Speaking during the exercise, the President of Akobo Lions Club, Lion (ESV) Sarafadeen Toyeshe Lawal, NLCF, explained that the initiative was in line with Lions Clubs International’s core service focus on hunger relief, a global project aimed at ensuring that no one is left behind, especially during significant seasons such as Christmas.

According to him, the Region deliberately set aside the day to physically engage the streets, carrying bags of cooked food and drinks to reach the most neglected and overlooked members of society.

“Feeding the hungry is one of the core mandates of Lions Clubs International. This season is about love, compassion, and sharing, and it is important that roadside beggars and the less privileged are not forgotten. This is what Lionism represents serving people in hopeless situations and restoring their dignity,” he said.

Lion Lawal further commended members of Akobo Lions Club and the entire Region 12 for their commitment to humanitarian service, noting that such projects reaffirm the club’s dedication to community impact beyond words.

Other notable Lions leaders present at the event included Chief Lion David Kehinde Akinwale the region 12 chairman, Lion Adeboye Abosede Jumoke among other prominent members who jointly applauded the initiative and urged sustained efforts toward addressing hunger and poverty within urban communities.

The outreach once again highlights the Lions Clubs International’s global mission of “We Serve”, reinforcing its role as a frontline organization in humanitarian service, particularly in reaching the underserved during critical moments of celebration and need
