2027 Elections will be judged by performance, not defections – PDP warns Tinubu, APC.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the 2027 general elections will not be determined by political defections but by the government’s track record and policies.

Speaking on AIT’s Focus Nigeria, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, criticized the APC for celebrating the recent wave of defections from opposition parties as though they were policy achievements.

Ologunagba emphasized that Nigerians are more concerned with governance outcomes than with political realignments. He pointed to the recent defection of former PDP vice-presidential candidate and Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, along with all PDP members of the National Assembly from Delta State, as examples of a disturbing trend.

“These defections are not necessarily driven by conviction,” he said. “Many are the result of coercion, especially under a government whose leader has openly expressed a desire for a one-party state.”

He described such a goal as unrealistic and dangerous in a diverse, multi-ethnic democracy like Nigeria.

“It is troubling to see the entire machinery of state celebrating defections rather than focusing on delivering tangible results for Nigerians. Governance should be about policies and impact, not political showmanship,” Ologunagba added.

He concluded with a clear message: “The APC must understand that come 2027, it won’t be defections that matter – it will be your scorecard, your policies, and how they have affected the lives of the Nigerian people.”
