#EndSARS: Southeast Governors Warn Against Inciting Statements That Could Endanger lives

Newsie Events:-
The Southeast Governors’ Forum, after their emergency virtual meeting on Thursday, has warned the people of the South East region to desist from making unguarded utterances capable of endangering the lives of Igbo people living in other parts of the country.
Speaking on the security situation in the country, the chairman of the forum and governor of Ebonyi State, Engr Dave Umahi, regretted the hijack of the #EndSARS protests by miscreants, thus defeating the purpose of the protest.

He said, “This act of hooliganism is unacceptable by our people. That is why the Southeast governors and our leaders met and asked me to appeal to our people to stop making very provocative statements that will endanger the lives of our people outside the Southeast. We condemn, very seriously, the killing of security agents in the country. And we commend them for their patience, understanding, and maturity. We all know the meaning of being armed and yet tolerant.”

The governors, who appealed to security agents to continue to exercise more patience in handling the protests, urged youths to embrace peace and work with the government in finding lasting solutions to police brutalities.

In another development, Gov Umahi, Friday, ordered ‘imported’ thugs, whom he said were part of the protest causing violence in his state, to vacate without further delay. While reiterating that the protest was hijacked, Umahi said, “The curfew is still on, but we can give you free access to leave. You remain our children no matter where you came from. My heart is bleeding over the way very expensive infrastructure we put in place in Ebonyi State is being destroyed by these hoodlums, especially the decorative lights, the streetlights, and fountains. It goes to show they never loved our modest strides, and that they are envious of them.”
He enjoined security agents in the state to enforce the immediate exit of the ‘hoodlums’, stating that, ‘these criminals must be flushed out of the state’. He also commended council chairmen, councilors, and other patriots of the state for defending the interest of the state. In his words, “I want to thank Ebonyians for standing with us at a very critical period like this. Please reach out to your loved ones outside Ebonyi State and find out if they are safe. If there are challenges, my phone numbers are open, so that I will contact the governors of the states where they are staying for assistance.”
