Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has delivered a final ruling stopping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its 2025 National Convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The judgment, issued Friday afternoon, followed a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido. Justice Lifu held that the PDP violated its own Constitution and Convention Guidelines by barring Lamido from purchasing the nomination form for the National Chairmanship position.
The court ordered that the convention cannot proceed until Lamido is granted the opportunity to obtain the form and participate fully in the exercise. In addition, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been restrained from supervising or monitoring the event until the party complies with the ruling.
Justice Lifu emphasized that the PDP must strictly adhere to its internal rules and ensure fair access for all eligible members seeking to pursue leadership positions. He described the denial of Lamido’s nomination form as improper and contrary to the party’s obligations.
