Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has debunked claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he attempted to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the allegation as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Saturday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor categorically denied ever considering or negotiating a move to the APC, calling the claim a product of political “hallucination.”
“At no point has Governor Adeleke entertained thoughts of defecting from the PDP. Such an idea has never been discussed and will never be considered,” Rasheed stated.
He emphasized that Adeleke, who defeated former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in 2022, remains focused on delivering his electoral promises and continues to enjoy massive support across the state.
“In less than three years, Governor Adeleke has achieved more than the APC could in over a decade. He has no reason to join a party that has lost the confidence of Osun people,” Rasheed added.
The statement also highlighted the governor’s strong performance and popularity, citing widespread endorsement by workers during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration and an 80 percent job approval rating.
Rasheed described the APC’s allegation as a distraction from the internal turmoil within the party. “This is a desperate attempt to divert attention from the crisis engulfing the APC in Osun. The party is riddled with internal betrayals and governance failures,” he said.
He further noted that Governor Adeleke has remained committed to maintaining peace, upholding democratic principles, and engaging key stakeholders in governance.
Meanwhile, the APC in Osun, through its media director Kola Olabisi, maintained that Adeleke had indeed explored the idea of joining the party but was told he would not be granted an automatic governorship ticket. The APC accused the governor of misleading PDP members about his political intentions.
Despite the conflicting narratives, Governor Adeleke’s camp insists he remains steadfastly loyal to the PDP and dedicated to delivering good governance to the people of Osun State.
