Just In: District Head of Wawa-Borgu, In Niger State, Abducted By Bandits

Alhaji Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu, the District Head of Wawa in the Borgu emirate of Niger state has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be bandits.

The unknown gunmen abducted the District head popularly known as the Dodo of Wawa on Saturday night from his palace.

It was gathered that the heavily armed gunmen stormed the district Head palace at about 10pm and started shooting sporadically causing panic within the palace and the entire community.
Amidst the confusion that followed, the traditional ruler was abducted and whisked to unknown destination.

Accirding to a source, the gunmen took Alhaji Aliyu through the Kainji National Park, towards Benin Republic.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer Niger State Police Command DSP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident.
Abiodun said the police special tactical team had been sent on the trail of the kidnappers, assuring that they will be apprehended shortly. (culled from ThisDay)
