Kankara Resident Explains Why Bandits Abducted Over 300 Schoolboys

A resident of Kankara Local Government Area of Kastina State who spoke on the condition of anonymity told news reporters the reason why over 300 schoolboys were abducted by bandits.

He said the vigilante group on Thursday mobilised and went after the bandits in their hideouts and engaged in burning down the Fulani houses, injuring and killing some of them.

While speaking to Channels Television on Monday, he described the attack as a reprisal attack as he said the abducted students were from Government Science School Kankara.

He further revealed that gunmen had attacked a village called Yar’Kuka last week where they killed many villagers and abducted some.

“There is something people are yet to know; before the recent abduction of Ƙankara Secondary School students, the bandits had on Wednesday attacked ‘Yar-Kuka village and killed 12 people and abducted an unspecified number of people in the village.

“On Thursday, vigilante group mobilised and went after the bandits in their hideouts and engaged in burning down the Fulani houses, injuring and killing some of them,” the resident said

The man said that was exactly what made them storm the school premises on Friday night and started shooting into the air before they gained access by jumping the fence and burgling the gate.

According to him, the bandits gathered the students and took them to where they parked their motorcycles in a village called Pauwa.

You would recall that President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday arrived in his hometown in Daura, Kastina State for a week’s private visit. And this incident happened at a time when the President is in his hometown.

President Buhari also charged security agencies to get to work immediately to see to it that the students are returned safely and taken back from these bandits.
